Physical Activity Programme

Description

A range of physical activity programmes have been developed and promoted with patients on site in Knockbracken. These include Highway to Health walking routes (developed in partnership with NICHS), boccia, chair based aerobics and a creative movement and sport programme (developed in partnership with South and East Belfast HSST Artscare). These initatives are delivered largely by trainined activity workers and care staff, and involve patients largely from long stay and rehabilitation wards.

Objectives

Train staff in the delivery of a range of physical activity programmes including, walk leader training, boccia, chair based aerobics.
To continue to support the development of the creative movement and sport programme (including obtaining accreditation for this programme).

To continue to support staff, as and when needed, in the delivery of these programmes.

The promotion of the importance of physical activity to staff, clients and their families.
